On the eve of Memorial Day, a holiday created to remember the millions of war dead of the Civil War that ended slavery, the thousands of war dead who died to end fascism in World War II, and the thousands who gave their lives serving in Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and countless other conflicts with less clear goals and success.
